Forum on Relationship Issues Affecting Young Men

Preventing Violence and Distress Among Young Men Experiencing Rejection or Exclusion in Intimate Relationships

Led by Philippe Roy, Associate Professor at the School of Social Work at the Université de Sherbrooke, this knowledge-sharing forum brought together, on April 30, 2026, several members of the Centre of Expertise and Research on Men's Health and Well-Being and their partners from the fields of research, practice, and lived experience.

The event provided an opportunity to collectively reflect on issues of distress, violence, and radicalization that may be associated with experiences of rejection, romantic breakups, or relational exclusion among young men. Discussions fostered the integration of scientific knowledge, experiential knowledge, and intervention practices in order to identify avenues for action and research aimed at better preventing distress and violence in this context.

This report presents the main findings, recommendations, and perspectives that emerged from the keynote presentations, research talks, and discussion workshops.
